Let’s face it. If you’re a left-handed
dentist and you have been practicing for a while, you’ve probably
resigned yourself to the fact that nobody cares very much about how
hard it can be to set up a left-handed practice.

Sure, when the Americans With Disabilities Act came out, some
of the manufacturers built various “radius” type over-the-patient
units to be compliant for dental school sales, but you know the reality,
it’s not the handpieces that are the big problem – it’s
where everything else fits into the operatory that is the real issue!
Further, if you currently co-exist with a right-handed practice, you’ve
probably got a real mess.
Either you have your own leftie ghetto of a couple of rooms, or you
spend all day in some sort of compromise – like writing with
those flowable ink pens that smear under your left writing hand. Can
you do it – yes. Is it a fun way to spend the rest of your life
– no.
At Ergonomic Products, we took a different approach to designing treatment
rooms – from the supplies and instruments in, rather than from
the handpieces out. By focusing on supplies, we were able to create
a concentrated room layout that is uncompromising in performance and
fully right/left convertible.
Finally, all rooms in your office can be fully right/left convertible
within seconds. For left-handed solo practitioners, this means that
you can now accommodate right-handed associates. For right-handed
practices – admit it, if you have interviewed associates in
the past, you’ve avoided lefties. That’s wrong, and…uh,
these days it’s illegal and it’s totally unnecessary.
In fact, if you are avoiding left-handed associates, you are making
a big mistake. Simple room improvements will suddenly make possible
access to some of the best practitioners in the profession. Better
yet, right-handed performance will increase at the same time.
Left-handed practice should not be a compromise. In fact, the combination
of a left-handed operator with a right-handed assistant may be the
most productive delivery combination possible!
So, let the high performance begin.
